• OVERVIEW |

If I wanted to make up a festival, it would die out very quickly or be modified in such a manner that it corresponds to a general inclination of the people ”
    Ludwig Wittgenstein

Athens Street Art Festival [ASAF] was formed by a group of committed individuals who are guided by a passionate belief in the power of art to create and convey personal experience and cultivate social progress.

ASAF is inspired by the notion that when art melds into the public realm in unexpected ways, it has the power to reach people beyond the traditional limitations of class, age, race and education to encourage public action.

ASAF is an ongoing interactive global art platform and collaborative catalyst to commission, produce and present ground-breaking and evocative art work, embedded in the issues and consequences of climate change.

ASAF desires to provide an annual platform for European Artists, operating outside of traditional systems. Outsiders if you like. The event aims to stimulate debate by challenging entrenched notions of what art is, and more importantly, can be.

ASAF aims to provide a relevant, challenging and dynamic environment for artists, students, gallery goers and public alike, an event that aims to reflects the culture rather than try and define it.

ASAF aims to explore and present new movements and works from within the field loosely termed as Street Art. Street art has its roots in situationism, graffiti, post-graffiti, comic culture, stencil and street art among other things. It is without a doubt the most exciting development in visual art for decades. A “movement” that has caught the imagination of the general public, collectors, auction houses and curators the world over.

ASAF will invite a series of exceptional artists dedicated to the moving image and innovative thinkers committed to fostering awareness and education to join us in our campaign for social change. Through this collaborative effort, we hope to provoke new perceptions, broaden awareness and education and find creative solutions concerning climate change and its consequences.
